Tony Johnson and Bill Poland make a new sail out of Mylar.
EDINA MODEL YACHT CLUB 2005 SAILBOAT TUNE-UP
By Alex Raupp
On Saturday, April 30th, 2005 we held our annual Sail Tuning program.
Usually, this event brings 20-30 sailors, but this year we only had about 15. Tony Johnson ran the show and he and Dave Bros did a commendable job tuning up old boats as well as modifying boats of new sailors. Larry Wheeler and Judd Morgan were also on hand to offer expert advice.

Dave Bros helps Gary Anderson tune-up his SeaWind.
A new sail was made out of mylar for Bill Poland's new, scratch-built land yacht, and we all had a chance to see the procedure. Several boats were adjusted to improve sailing with varying degrees of modification.
It can be tough to drill new holes and make modifications to a new boat that are not part of the or instructions. However, sometimes they are necessary in order to make a stock boat run better. In my case, I have a Fairwind, and when it was suggested to removed the main sail from the boom and leave it loose-footed, I was surprised.

Tony Johnson and Larry Wheeler give Alex Raupp some expert advise.
We made that modification and the boat seems to run a bit better. .
Though the weather was quite chilly, a few sailors took their new rigs out for a test run, as the wind was nice and steady.

In all it was a successful event and we all look forward to a great season of sailing.
